Asian carrier launches route to Europe through Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has celebrated the expansion of its global network at Abu Dhabi International Airport with the start of the operation of Garuda Indonesia flights connecting Abu Dhabi to Jakarta, Indonesia and Amsterdam, Holland.

The first flight from the airline arrived in Abu Dhabi from Jakarta landing at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 01:00 am on 3 December 2012.

The new route brings four weekly flights between Jakarta, Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam.

On the return, the service will fly out of Amsterdam at 09:40 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 19:45. It will depart from Abu Dhabi on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 21:15, arriving in Jakarta at 07:55 the following day.

James E. Bennett, the CEO of ADAC, said: “ADAC welcomes Garuda Indonesia to Abu Dhabi as it looks into strengthening Abu Dhabi International Airport’s link with two major foreign capitals. The use of Abu Dhabi as a connection between Europe and the East illustrates the Capital’s firm position as an international aviation hub. Through adding such efficient and key routes, ADAC will continue to develop its quality and convenient services for its international customers.”

Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO Garuda Indonesia, said: “Garuda Indonesia’s stopover in Abu Dhabi is an effort to continually improve its services to customers and is part of its partnership with Etihad Airways. Now, our customers from Indonesia, Asia and Australia will enjoy the ease of connecting via Abu Dhabi to all over the world, with the codeshare agreement we are doing with Etihad”.

The four weekly flights will be operated on Airbus A330-200 with 36 business and 186 economy seats. Garuda Indonesia has also signed a codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, which will enable passengers on this route to connect further from Jakarta or Amsterdam to the rest of the world through Etihad’s comprehensive and fast growing global network

Gold smuggling racketeers have once again commenced using Flight Attendants of   SriLankan Airlines   as mules to smuggle gold into the country. A 27 year old former Mihin Lanka Flight Steward Meewala Arachchige Chanuka, who recently joined SriLankan Airlines after the airlines merged, confessed to Custom Officers when he was apprehended a few days ago, that he was promised a sum of Rs 40, 000 for carrying the 6.5 kilo grams of gold valued at Rs 35 million.
